Whether you want to create a new habit or need a daily reminder to check something important it can be a good practice to get them as a new todo in your todo app to check them everyday. My personal favorite tool to handle my todos is Todoist and I (with the help of IFTTT) made it into an even more powerful tool to track my habits.

It creates at 3 time points in a day a todo to ask me if I drank enough (8am, 11am and 17am). It also reminds me in the evening to meditate and drink some tea. At the end of the day I can control myself to check if I completed my habits.

Use IFTTT to create tasks every day

I have to admit that I really love IFTTT and I still believe that it will have a great future in terms of automating our lifes and all the tools we use. Right now, I am running more than 25 applets to automate and organize my life. To create an applet that will create a todo every day, you have to start with “Date & Time” as the service for “this”.

Choose IFTTT “Date & Time” as the trigger service

For the trigger you can choose whatever period suits you. In this example we want to create daily tasks. So, we choose “Every day at”.

Choose IFTTT “Every day at” as the trigger action

In the next screen you can configure the time you want to create the task. Choose whatever you need. It’s a good advice to create a task a few hours before you want it to be completed. For example: If you want to have meditated until 6pm, you should create the task at 3pm.

Now you can choose the action service. You can use whatever tool you like to create the task. I personally prefer Todoist, so I will go with it. But you can also use tools like iOS Reminders or Trello. There is only one action right now “Create task”. So choose this.

If you want to create a new task, you can use “Create task” as the service action.

Now you can configure the task you want to create in Todoist. For due date you use the ingredient “CheckTime”. Everything else is up to you. Here is an example:

Of course you can also use different triggers and/or services. And when you go on vacation, you can just turn the applets off and activate them again, when you are back.
